Blogging, hot weather and jazz...

Apologies for light blogging of late. That's partly because 1) I'm very busy, 2) bloggers block and 3) its too damn hot ! I even don't like drinking alcohol when the its sunny, I prefer drinking in dark seedy places as opposed to on the beach, which makes me feel sick even with just one glass of JD let alone a half bottle:-)

Hopefully inspiration, and thunderstorms , will strike . In the meantime a musical interlude. A few weeks back I went to see Ornette Coleman at the Meltdown festival. This caused some debate over at Dave's blog and Mr Denham posted on the subject, twice .Now I like to listen to all sorts of music and am always up for discovering artists new to me. I have listened to bits of jazz over the years ( Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane amongst others). Being with Dave has meant hearing lots more ! In talking to him and Jim I have discovered there is basically two types of Jazz, Osler Jazz and Jimmy (Denham ) Jazz. Jim apparently is good time!

So to cut to the chase, here are some you tubes of jazz that Jim won't like . Next week , lucky girl that I am, have the opportunity to watch him in action, playing the drums. I'll report back !

First off John Coltrane with Alabama . This was written in reaction to the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church,by the Klu Klux clan, that resulted in the death of four girls.

Now for some Miles Davis with a track from Kind of Blue, although to really torment Jim I should have uploaded something from Bitches Brew .

After tormenting Mr D, here are some female jazz vocalists which I believe cross the Jim/Osler categories .

I have picked Billie Holiday singing Strange Fruit. Its one of the most powerful songs about racism, where she sings about the lynching of black people .Its one of those songs Im not sure saying I enjoy it is quite how I feel . The lyrics evoke feelings of anger at the suffering and racism.

OK, bit of a theme, here is Nina Simone singing Mississippi Goddam.Nina was part of the Civil Rights and this, like John Coltrane, was partly a response to the Church bombings.

Finally , round off with some Dinah Washington:

More drunk and umanageable goings on...hopefully

Been really lazy about posting. This partly due to the usual fed upness coming back to the real world after going away . Its also due to pissed off ness with all the usual bickering on the left .I'll get back to posting, rather than gossiping, soon!!

Oh well. off to the bloggers piss up. Volty can't make it so apparently I am in charge of both Mike R and Denham. I have to watch Denham's 'fucking bag', make sure he has plenty of scotch and generally boss him around (he likes women doing that I believe :-) ). Volty has given me my instructions and I am sure I am up to the task of keeping control of Denham, though Mike is an entirely tougher proposition .

Just as well I happy to like weird leftie men ...yes really Punchie ;-)

More strange searches

Looking at my stats today I noticed two searches, one was 'Hazel Blears stockings' and the other a search for Dolls4Jim .

I also get people searching for mud wrestling on a regular basis. They must be quite disappointed to find one of my many Denham posts .

Strange people, still keeps them off the streets I suppose ;-)

Pic for Volty, who is rather taken with both Hazel Blears and Yvonne Ridley .

Facebook ...arghhhhhhh

I have finally given in and joined Facebook!

First MarshaJane has been nagging me .Then last night I went to Tami's birthday and meal and she made an offer I couldn't refuse, if I joined she would set up the Dolls4Jim group. So I'm there, my name is stroppy bird. I have been 'poking' people. I'm not sure what that means yet but it sounds fun. Of course I am sure there are better uses of my time ,as with the blogs I get the feeling this could be addictive.

Oh and thanks Tami for a nice night. Hope you enjoyed your birthday . I gave Tami a birthday card with a picture of Jim Denham on it. Oh and a large glossy picture which Tami put on a seat set aside for him,it was as if he was there with us, in spirit(s). Tami has told me it is going on her wall. We managed to baffle her Birkbeck mates who could not understand who this Jim was and what Dolls4Jim was about. One thought Jim had really stood against Gordon Brown. I think Dave and George despaired of us.

Oh well, better see if anyone has 'poked' me over at Facebook. I only have three friends , its the school playground all over again :-(

Denham behind the wheel !!

Congratulations to Jim for passing his driving test.

Jim, that suave Cary Grant look alike , was finding the long long walk to the nearest offie a bit of a drag. Of course this is self-inflicted. The lesson is do not sign puritanical petitions ,even if asked by sweet little old ladies. Now he has to drive and that will lead to giving lifts to comrades and staying sober, as Volty puts it :

It’s an achievement that he’s already apprehensive about as he’s beginning to realise that sometimes he’ll now have to be the guy who says “not for me thanks, I’m driving” - a phrase he didn’t previously realise existed in the English lexicon. He’ll also be chauffeuring people to political events and jazz gigs before you know it.

I can picture him now, behind the wheel of a little red sports car , wearing a cravat .

Jim, pictured, before he passed his test.
